Best day in Aussie Figure Skating history

Published 10 October 2017 (AEDT)

FIGURE SKATING: Harley Windsor and Ekaterina Alexandrovskaya have claimed back-to-back podium finishes, winning gold at the Figure Skating Junior Grand Prix in Gdansk, Poland over the weekend.

The Junior World Champions defeated two Russian teams who finished in second and third respectively, just one week after securing their 2018 Olympic quota spot for Australia with a bronze medal at the Nebelhorn Trophy in Oberstdorf, Germany

Being the last pair to skate, the Pair did not let pressure get the better of them, performing their free program to ‘Mask’, their routine was enough to capture gold and their second podium in as many weeks.

With a fourth place in the Riga Junior Grand Prix in September and now the gold in Poland, Windsor and and Alexandrovskaya have proved they mean business heading into the Junior Grand Prix Final in Japan in early December.

On October 7, the ISU 2017/18 Season's World Rankings had Australian skaters ranked first in Pairs and Ladies and second in Men.

At the time of publishing (Tuesday October 10), Newcastle's Kailane Craine leads the world in the Ladies competition, while Windsor and Alexandrovskaya are currently ranked #1 in the world in the Pairs event.

Sydney's Brendan Kerry rounds out the green and gold dominance, sitting in 5th place on the ISU Season's World Rankings in the men's individual event.

Australia's figure skaters have hauled in two gold and four bronze medals in just over four weeks at ISU Figure Skating Challenger events and one Junior Grand Prix.
