Five things you didn't know about: Casey Wright

Published 11 August 2017 (AEDT)

Cross country skier Casey Wright is aiming to make her Olympic debut at the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games and is working tirelessly towards that goal.

Here are five things you didn't know about Casey Wright:

Casey comes from the Yarra Valley, east of Melbourne, VIC. When she is in Australia, she lives with her parents, younger brother, two dogs (including a pug called Jono), a three-legged cat, two sheep, a flock of chickens, a turtle, and green tree frogs. "I miss them, as well as well as vegemite, meat pies and the smell of gum trees, the most when I am travelling."

She spends her spare time crocheting headbands. That's when she is not studying or training. Casey is currently working towards a degree in Health Science a the University of Alaska Anchorage, or training.

Her pump up pre-race song for this season is: Stranger (featuring Elliphant) by Peking Duk. It is the first song she listens to when she wakes up on a race morning and the last one she puts on before she starts racing.

She trains between 650-700 hours per year. This includes skiing, roller skiing, mountain and road bike riding, running and strength in the gym. Casey's favourite training sessions are big three plus hour adventures (running, biking, roller skiing or skiing during the spring) preferably in the mountains, downhill and cornering practice or speed workouts.

If she wasn't a skier I would most likely be living on a beach surfing every day (or just lying in the snow)!
